Playing without an account
You can play without signing up. Your settings, your songs and your progress are kept in your own browser. Songs and audio files you add are never uploaded.
When you finish a song with a chart everyone can play, the game makes a guest player for you on our server and sends the run: your key presses and their timing, so the server can check the score by replaying it. A guest has a generated name, which you can change and which shows on boards and leagues.
If you add an email or Google account
We keep the email address, or the Google account's id and email, so you can sign in and keep your progress on another device. We use it only to send you sign-in codes. We never sell it or send you anything else.
Counting visitors
To learn whether the game is worth working on and what to fix, your browser keeps a random id and tells us a few things. None of it is tied to a person: we store no name, email, IP address or anything you typed with it.
- That the game was opened (at most once a day), that a first song was finished, and that a second one was started.
- On your first visit only: where you came from, as the name of a site such as Reddit, Google or Discord (or "direct", or "other"), or the short tag in the link if the link had one, like ?ref=r-clonehero (the tag is then removed from the address bar); and whether your main pointer is a touchscreen or a mouse. We do not read your browser's user agent text.
- For each run: a count that a song was started, finished, or left early, and roughly how far in it was (in steps: the first tenth, up to a quarter, half, three quarters, or the end). It is added to a total per day, song, difficulty and mode, with no id of yours on it. Built-in songs and charts from the public chart list are counted by their public id; a song from your own files is counted only as "own file", never by name.
- When something fails, a count under a fixed label: a download, a chart or audio file that could not be read, a video, a sign-in, or a score that could not be sent. No error text goes with it.
There are no adverts and no outside tracking or analytics services.
Who runs it
The game is served by Cloudflare. Scores and accounts are stored with Supabase in Frankfurt, and sign-in mail is sent through Resend. Their servers log addresses briefly, as any website's do.
How long
A guest with no runs is removed after 7 days, and one with runs after 90 days without playing. Players with an email or Google account are kept until they ask us to remove them.
Removing your data
Write to us from the address on your account, or with your player name, and we delete your player, runs and account:
